It’s hard to follow a kite, up in the gusty strands of light, where with wings achieve flight. There artists go, to catch their breath at sights below. Where Everyman has case in hand, while stuck in rutted jobs meant for common man. Yet brush dynamic, shade and line, and with flair divine, is just an artist friend of mine. The mysterious caper of Jean Michel Folon. His heart poured out on bronze, canvas and paper.
There are some artists that develop a style that captures your imagination. A favorite of mine is Jean Michel Folon.
My Painting in Folon style:
I painted this watercolor to try and capture that feeling, the one men get when they realize the mundane of their existence when held up to the light of nature.

I had a mental chat with a friend of my daughters who had placed a little message on Facebook regarding her feelings about being an artist. It is the same for many of us who create things. The lack of appreciation for art and photography is like a slit in the airbag, a leak in the plumbing, and the virus in the system. Artists need support and recognition. But they can also derive intrinsic satisfaction of producing something without a care or concern for what others think. Then that type of art, not drawn to produce a response from others, can really be raw in emotion and offer a statement straight from the depths of a person’s soul.
Here are two pieces. One drawn to experiment with use of color, texture and to pull in the lights and shadows of a glass. Really simple, really just a touch of trying a hand at this type of style. Then the second is another experiment with similar subject matters, but drawn to represent really objects and subjects. This one drawn to please, the other just a raw sketch of the matter. Neither has much depth of soul, but the second piece represents a very satisfying moment whether or romance or just relaxation, I’m not sure.
I some times wonder if my mind creates these things to keep me sane in the insanity of a world ripe for destruction. The earthquakes and tidal waves, the bombings and the horrors of war are fixed in the public’s eye. I think maybe I’m drawn to create another world where I can escape unharmed. The picture here has an endless horizon and a cloudy expanse through which one can travel forever. Eternity is that place, and this image draws one away from the chaos and tumultuous ways of mankind.
